VETERINARY PERMISSION
It is a legal obligation to gain veterinary consent to treat your horse or dog.
Prior to your first appointment, you will be asked which veterinary practice your animal is registered with and for your consent for Lisa to contact them to gain their permission to treat your animal. Where your Vet has referred your animal to Lisa for rehabilitation and veterinary physiotherapy, this consent will already be in place for your first appointment. If your Vet has not directly referred you to Lisa for treatment, veterinary permission will need to be gained. Please note that if Lisa is not granted permission by your Vet then your animal cannot be treated. In this instance you will be advised as soon as possible.
As a therapist, Lisa needs to know your animal's background. The owner can often explain this however by liaising directly with the animal's own Veterinary Surgeon ensures all information communicated is clear and comprehensive. Vets are able to give this information by looking at the medical records held for your pet. Lisa also finds it helpful to establish a good working relationship with your vet, should the case require teamwork or further discussion.
There are occasions where Lisa will refer clients back to their Vet for further investigations. As a therapist, Lisa is not allowed to diagnose a condition, only Vets can do this. Once a confirmed diagnosis is made, Lisa is then able to work with your Vet to draw up a rehabilitation plan to get your horse or dog feeling like their self again.
Lisa also works with peers and professionals such as farriers, nutritionists, dentists, trainers and behaviourists where required, to ensure the best possible outcome for your animal.
